Kevin,Rob and Brad were playing poker. Kevin has 5 more chips in his pile than Brad. Rob has 3 times the amount of chips in his pile than brad. In total they have 125 chips. Determine how many chips are in each of their piles. A) write an equation to find how many chips are in each of their ( please show work )

Accepted Solution

A:
Lets say Brad has 'x' number of Chips Brad = x Kevin has 5 more chips than that of Brad. So Kevin = x + 5 Rob has 3 times more chips than that of Brad. So Rob = 3*x = 3x Total chips present = 125. So putting down the below equation Bob + Kevin + Brad = 125 x + (x + 5) + 3x = 125 5x + 5 = 125 Subtracting by 5 on both sides of equation 5x + 5 - 5 = 125 - 5 5x = 120 Divide by 5 on both sides of equation 5x/5 = 120/5 x = 24 So total chips possessed by Brad = x = 24 total chips possessed by Kevin = (x + 5) = 24+5 = 29 total chips possessed by Rob = 3x = 3*24 = 72 Brad has 24 chips, Kevin has 29 chips and Rob has 72 chips
